Another year has come and gone, and all in all I'd say 2010 was a great year. We started out in the Spring with a LOT on our plates in dealing with finishing the backyard, but now that it's done I'm so amazed and proud of what a lot of hard work has accomplished. We took a trip to Boise to visit my mom, and discovered that a vacation with kids is no vacation at all :). But we have the priceless pictures to prove that we did take our kids on vacation. In two years we hope to do a real vacation and take them to Disneyland. By then Malia will be 3 and a much more reasonable person, we hope. Malia turned one this year, Riley turned 5, I (Darci) turned 30, and Ben turned 31. Time just marches on. This year was different for me in that I have started to feel a little more aware of how I am getting older whether I like it or not, and I have actually become very nostalgic at times for "good old days" which makes me feel OLD. But you know how it is, you hear a certain song or smell a familiar smell and it takes you right back to a moment or time in your life when things seemed better, or simpler. But honestly, I look at my life the way it is right now, and I realize how lucky and happy I am problems and all. The other night I was carrying a sleeping Riley into his bed, fretting about how much it was going to cost to get a tooth of his fixed at the dentist, and as I put him in bed he was limp because he was so sleepy. But his limpness and helplessness at that moment made me think of so many parents who have children with serious health problems, who maybe carry their children because they can't walk or they have a terminal illness. I am lucky! All I had to worry about at that moment was one little tooth.
I took a challenge from my Bishop this year to read the Book of Mormon and be done by the end of the year. When he gave the challenge, I was WAY behind schedule and had to do some major cramming but this forced me to read many chapters at a time rather than the 1 or 1/2 a chapter I usually do. Because of this, I gained a true testimony of the Book of Mormon which was not there before. I now know without a doubt that this book was not just made up by Joseph Smith, there's just no way. It is a TRUE account. I don't know if I should be embarrassed that I am just now gaining my OWN testimony of this book, but there you have it!
Okay, I'm off my soap box. I feel bad that this post seems to be all about me and my feelings. But let's face it, I am the sole blogger of this blog so it's no wonder you get to hear about ME all the time :) This year is going to bring lot's of great things! Goodbye 2010!
This was New Year's Eve. We are such wild party animals. We are in Malia's room getting ready to put her to bed which is why she looks bummed.
Riley loves his little snow hole. Ben started to dig a hole in the side of this mound but I freaked out and said "no way!" because all I could picture was the snow caving in on one of our kids. Maybe I over worry, because we all played in snow forts as kids but honestly it scares me to think of my own kids in one!
The sunshine! A welcome sight this time of year.
Once in, Malia did NOT want to get out. I should have just let them sleep out here :)

WOW sounds like you are ready for the new year. I love reading your posts, i laugh out loud all of the time. Cool snow fort I find it amazing that i do not let my kids do some of the things that I used to do, one of the sucky parts of being a mom I guess. I hope that 2011 brings you great fun and memories, see you at work sometime ya night shifter.
aw, love your posts! :) Sounds like a great end of a year. Yep, this one is going to be even better! :)
